The ESEE Laser Strike is one of the first knives Jeff Randall and Mike Perrin ever designed, reintroduced under the ESEE brand and, according to ESEE, built by Rowen Manufacturing. This version pairs a 4.75″ Desert Tan 1095 spear point blade with removable tan Micarta handle scales that cover a hollowed-out tang storing emergency fire-starting tools, plus a black Kydex sheath.
1095 carbon steel is a classic choice for survival knives: tough, easy to sharpen in the field, and forgiving under hard use. ESEE runs it at 55-57 HRC. The 0.188″ thick, flat-ground spear point is a shape many users prefer for heavy bushcraft work. The handle adds two survival features: a bow drill divot for fire making, and removable scales that open up storage in the tang.
- Blade: 4.75″ 1095 carbon steel spear point, Desert Tan finish, flat grind, plain edge, 0.188″ thick, 55-57 HRC. 10.0″ overall.
- Handle: Removable tan Micarta scales over a hollowed-out tang with emergency fire-starting tools stored inside, plus a bow drill divot. 5.25″ handle length.
- Sheath: Black Kydex sheath included.
- Carry: 9.5 oz.
Ideal for: bushcrafters who want a heavy-duty spear point for camp and woods work; survival kit builders who want fire-starting gear stored in the knife itself; and buyers who want a matched Desert Tan and tan colorway on one of Randall and Perrin’s original designs.
Care: 1095 is carbon steel, not stainless. The Desert Tan finish helps protect the blade, but the edge and any worn areas can rust or patina. Keep the knife dry and lightly oiled, and check the handle storage for moisture after wet use.
ESEE Laser Strike Desert Tan: Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions about the ESEE Laser Strike with a Desert Tan spear point blade, tan Micarta, and black Kydex sheath (ESEE-LS-P-DT).
What kind of blade and sheath does the Laser Strike have?
It is a fixed blade with a 4.75-inch 1095 carbon steel spear point blade, 0.188 inch thick, hardened to 55-57 HRC, with a Desert Tan finish, a flat grind, and a plain edge. It comes with a black Kydex sheath.
What is included with the Laser Strike?
The knife comes with its black Kydex sheath and emergency fire-starting tools stored inside the handle. Contents are subject to change by the manufacturer.
How do I access the storage in the handle?
The tan Micarta scales are removable. Take out the handle screws to lift off the scales and reach the hollowed-out tang, where the fire-starting tools are stored.
How is this different from the black Laser Strike?
Both share the same 4.75-inch 1095 spear point blade, removable tan Micarta scales, handle storage, bow drill divot, and black Kydex sheath. This version has a Desert Tan blade, while the ESEE-LS-P-E has a black blade.
Will the 1095 carbon steel blade rust?
It can. 1095 is carbon steel, not stainless, so it needs more care than stainless steels. The Desert Tan finish helps protect the blade, but the edge and any worn areas can rust or patina if left wet. Wipe the knife dry after use, keep a light coat of oil on it, and check the handle storage for moisture after wet use.
What warranty does the Laser Strike have, and where is it made?
ESEE describes its warranty as one of the most extensive available. Contact ESEE or visit eseeknives.com for current warranty terms and service. The Laser Strike is made in the USA.
