TOPS Trailhead Kukri – Black Canvas Micarta (4.75″ 1095) TPTDKR01

The Trailhead Kukri is a captivating blend of traditional and modern knife designs, crafted meticulously by Jason Swain. With a rich history of over 400 years, the kukri design has been a staple for many knife enthusiasts. However, Jason Swain sought to create a unique everyday carry (EDC) knife that stood out from the rest, drawing from his experiences both as a biker and a knife aficionado.

Inspiration and Design

Jason Swain’s appreciation for both karambit-style knives and kukris led him to an innovative design challenge. At first glance, these two styles might seem incompatible due to their distinct shapes and functionalities. The karambit is known for its curved blade and ergonomic handle, ideal for tactical use, while the kukri boasts a broader, more robust blade traditionally used for chopping and cutting.

By creatively merging these two designs, Swain developed the Trailhead Kukri, which offers the best of both worlds. The result is a knife that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional. It is perfectly suited for outdoor activities like camping and hiking, while still being compact enough for daily carry as a fixed blade.

Features and Materials

The Trailhead Kukri showcases the following features and materials:

• Blade Material: The knife is crafted from TOPS’ renowned differentially heat-treated 1095 steel. This material is celebrated for its excellent edge retention and durability, making it a reliable choice for both heavy-duty and everyday tasks.

• Finish: The blade is coated with a sniper grey Cerakote finish, providing an additional layer of protection against corrosion and wear.

• Handle: The handle is made from black canvas Micarta, offering a comfortable and secure grip. This material is known for its toughness and resistance to moisture.

Versatile Carry Options

The Trailhead Kukri comes with a sheath designed for appendix carry. However, its versatile design allows for easy modifications to accommodate various carrying methods. Whether you prefer to carry it on your belt or attached to your backpack, the sheath ensures that the knife is always securely and comfortably accessible.
