The ESEE Tertiary is a compact push-dagger-style fixed blade developed by SWAT officer Lee Smith. ESEE describes it as a backup tool for law enforcement and military professionals, named for its place after a primary and a backup firearm. It pairs a 2.625″ black 1095 blade with a black G-10 handle and a modular black polymer sheath.
1095 carbon steel is a classic choice for hard-use fixed blades: tough, easy to sharpen, and forgiving under heavy use. ESEE runs it at 55-57 HRC. The Tertiary draws on ESEE’s compact Izula line, and ESEE designed it around fast access, a low-profile carry footprint, modular carry options, and robust construction. The black G-10 handle is durable and moisture resistant.
- Blade: 2.625″ 1095 carbon steel push-dagger-style clip point, black finish, flat grind, plain edge, 0.17″ thick, 55-57 HRC. 5.00″ overall.
- Handle: Black G-10.
- Sheath: Black injection-molded polymer sheath with a removable clip plate for waistband or duty belt carry, holes for paracord lashing to MOLLE webbing, and neck carry.
- Carry: 3.64 oz.
Ideal for: law enforcement and military professionals who want a compact backup blade; duty users who need flexible belt, MOLLE, or neck carry; and ESEE collectors who want Lee Smith’s Tertiary design.
Legal notice: Push daggers, daggers, and concealed fixed blades are restricted or prohibited in some states and cities. It is the buyer’s responsibility to check and follow all state and local laws before buying, carrying, or concealing this knife.
Care: 1095 is carbon steel, not stainless. The black finish helps protect the blade, but the edge and any worn areas can rust or patina. Keep the knife dry and lightly oiled.
ESEE Tertiary: Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions about the ESEE Tertiary with a black 1095 blade, black G-10 handle, and modular sheath (ESEE-TERTIARY).
What kind of blade and sheath does the Tertiary have?
It is a push-dagger-style fixed blade with a 2.625-inch 1095 carbon steel clip point blade, 0.17 inch thick, hardened to 55-57 HRC, with a black finish, a flat grind, and a plain edge, on a black G-10 handle. It comes with a black injection-molded polymer sheath.
Is the Tertiary legal where I live?
It depends on where you live. Push daggers, daggers, and concealed fixed blades are restricted or prohibited in some states and cities. Check and follow all state and local laws before buying, carrying, or concealing this knife.
What is included with the Tertiary?
The knife comes with its black polymer sheath and removable clip plate. Contents are subject to change by the manufacturer.
How can the sheath be carried?
With the clip plate attached, the sheath clips vertically to a belt or waistband, and ESEE notes it works well between the 10 and 2 o’clock positions. Removing the clip plate exposes holes for lashing the sheath to MOLLE webbing with paracord, or it can be worn as a neck sheath. Carry laws vary, so confirm that your chosen carry method is legal where you live.
Will the 1095 carbon steel blade rust?
It can. 1095 is carbon steel, not stainless, so it needs more care than stainless steels. The black finish helps protect the blade, but the edge and any worn areas can rust or patina if left wet. Wipe the knife dry after use and keep a light coat of oil on it.
What warranty does the Tertiary have, and where is it made?
ESEE describes its warranty as one of the most extensive available. Contact ESEE or visit eseeknives.com for current warranty terms and service. The Tertiary is made in the USA.
