Camp-Lore CR2.5 – 2.5″ 1095 Black Oxide Stonewash Plain Edge Drop Point Blade, Tan Micarta Handle – ESEE-CR2.5-BO

The ESEE Camp-Lore CR2.5 is the smallest knife in ESEE’s Camp-Lore series, a Cody Rowen design with a 2.5″ 1095 carbon steel drop-point blade built as a classic bird and trout knife for fish and small-game work.

ESEE created the Camp-Lore series to offer simple, traditional bushcraft fixed blades, and the CR2.5 keeps that idea at its most compact. ESEE’s Mike Perrin describes it as a simple bird and trout knife small enough to slip into a pocket almost as easily as a ballpoint pen. The flat-ground blade is 1095 carbon steel, a tough, straightforward steel that takes a keen edge and is easy to touch up in the field, finished in black oxide with a stonewash. Removable tan Micarta scales give a secure grip on wet hands, and the knife rides in a USA-made traditional leather pouch sheath. ESEE notes that the sheath leather comes from one of the oldest tanneries in North America.

• Blade: 2.5″ 1095 carbon steel drop point, flat grind, plain edge, black oxide stonewash finish.
• Handle: Removable tan Micarta scales.
• Construction: Fixed blade, with no folding or locking mechanism.
• Carry: 2.5 oz. Includes a USA-made traditional leather pouch sheath.

Ideal for: anglers who want a small knife for cleaning trout and panfish; upland bird hunters who need a compact blade for field cleaning; and bushcrafters who want a pocket-sized fixed blade for light camp chores.

Care: 1095 is not stainless. It may develop a patina where the finish wears, so keep the blade dry and lightly oiled.

What is a bird and trout knife, and who designed the CR2.5?

A bird and trout knife is a small fixed blade sized for cleaning fish and upland birds, where a short, controllable blade works better than a large one. The CR2.5 was designed by Cody Rowen and is the smallest knife in ESEE’s Camp-Lore series.

How do I care for the 1095 carbon steel blade?

1095 is a carbon steel, not a stainless steel, so it can rust if left wet, and it may develop a patina where the black oxide finish wears. Wipe the blade clean and dry after cleaning fish or game, keep it lightly oiled, and avoid storing it in the leather sheath for long periods while damp.
