ESEE-4 – 4.50″ 1095 Black Part Serrated Drop Point Blade, Gray Micarta Handle – ESEE-4S

The ESEE-4 is one of ESEE’s most popular survival knives, sized to handle heavy camp work while staying light enough for the trail. This version pairs a 4.50″ black-coated 1095 drop-point blade with a partially serrated edge, gray Micarta handle scales, and a Coyote Brown polymer sheath.

1095 carbon steel is a classic choice for survival knives: tough, easy to sharpen in the field, and forgiving under hard use. ESEE runs it at 55-57 HRC. The 0.188″ thick blade stock stands up to batoning, while the tall flat grind keeps the plain section thin enough for clean slicing. The serrated section near the handle helps cut through rope, cordage, webbing, and other tough, fibrous materials.

• Blade: 4.50″ 1095 carbon steel drop point, black finish, tall flat grind, partially serrated edge, 0.188″ thick, 55-57 HRC. 9.00″ overall.
• Handle: Gray Micarta for a secure, natural grip. 4.50″ handle length.
• Sheath: Injection-molded Coyote Brown polymer sheath included.
• Carry: 8.00 oz.

Ideal for: hunters and campers who want a mid-size knife that handles both slicing and rope work; bushcrafters and preppers who want serrations on a tough survival blade; and outdoor users who prefer an earth-toned Coyote Brown sheath.

Care: 1095 is carbon steel, not stainless. The black finish helps protect the blade, but the edge and any worn areas can rust or patina. Keep the knife dry and lightly oiled.

ESEE-4 Partially Serrated, Coyote Brown Sheath: Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about the ESEE-4 with a partially serrated black blade, gray Micarta, and a Coyote Brown sheath (ESEE-4S).

What kind of blade and sheath does this ESEE-4 have?

It is a fixed blade with a 4.50-inch 1095 carbon steel drop-point blade, 0.188 inch thick, hardened to 55-57 HRC, with a black finish, a tall flat grind, and a partially serrated edge. It comes with an injection-molded Coyote Brown polymer sheath.

What is included with this ESEE-4?

The knife comes with its Coyote Brown polymer sheath. Contents are subject to change by the manufacturer.

How is this different from other ESEE-4 versions?

This version has the same partially serrated black blade and gray Micarta handle as the ESEE-4S-B, paired with a Coyote Brown sheath instead of black. If you prefer a full plain edge, the ESEE-4P-B has a black blade and gray Micarta.

How do I sharpen the serrated section?

Sharpen the plain section as you would any plain edge. For the serrations, use a tapered ceramic rod or a sharpening system with corner edges for serrations, working only the beveled side, then lightly remove any burr from the flat side.

Will the 1095 carbon steel blade rust?

It can. 1095 is carbon steel, not stainless, so it needs more care than stainless steels. The black finish helps protect the blade, but the edge and any worn areas can rust or patina if left wet. Wipe the knife dry after use and keep a light coat of oil on it.

What warranty does the ESEE-4 have, and where is it made?

ESEE describes its warranty as one of the most extensive available. Contact ESEE or visit eseeknives.com for current warranty terms and service. The ESEE-4 is made in the USA.
