ESEE-5 3D Handle – 5.25″ 1095 Dark Earth Plain Edge Drop Point Blade, Coyote and Black 3D G-10 Handle – 5PDE-005

The ESEE-5 is a heavy-duty survival knife that ESEE says was designed by military SERE instructors as a downed pilot’s survival knife. This 3D Handle version pairs a 5.25″ Dark Earth 1095 blade with contoured coyote and black G-10 handle scales and a black Kydex belt sheath, for a subdued, earth-toned look.

1095 carbon steel is a classic choice for hard-use survival knives: tough, easy to sharpen in the field, and forgiving under heavy work. ESEE runs it at 55-57 HRC. At 0.25″ thick with a saber grind, the blade keeps extra steel behind the edge for strength during chopping and other heavy tasks. Every ESEE-5 also has a sharpened glass breaker pommel and a bow drill divot in the handle for fire starting.

• Blade: 5.25″ 1095 carbon steel drop point, Dark Earth finish, saber grind, plain edge, 0.25″ thick, 55-57 HRC. 11.00″ overall.
• Handle: 3D-contoured coyote and black G-10 for a secure, durable grip, with a bow drill divot and a sharpened glass breaker pommel. 5.75″ handle length.
• Sheath: Black Kydex belt sheath included.
• Carry: 17.00 oz.

Ideal for: hard-use survival and preparedness buyers who want a thick, heavy-duty fixed blade; bushcrafters who want a bow drill divot built into the handle; and outdoor users who prefer a subdued, earth-toned finish.

Glass breaker: Laws on knives with glass breakers and similar tools vary. Check your local laws and use this tool lawfully.

Care: 1095 is carbon steel, not stainless. The Dark Earth finish helps protect the blade, but the edge and any worn areas can rust or patina. Keep the knife dry and lightly oiled.

What kind of blade and sheath does the ESEE-5 3D Handle have?

It is a fixed blade with a 5.25-inch 1095 carbon steel drop-point blade, 0.25 inch thick, hardened to 55-57 HRC, with a Dark Earth finish, a saber grind, and a plain edge. It comes with a black Kydex belt sheath.

The knife comes with its black Kydex belt sheath. Contents are subject to change by the manufacturer.

Which ESEE-5 3D Handle colorway should I choose?

All three share the same 5.25-inch 1095 blade, saber grind, 3D G-10 handle shape, glass breaker pommel, and Kydex sheath. Choose Dark Earth with coyote and black G-10 for a subdued, low-profile look.

What are the glass breaker pommel and bow drill divot for?

The sharpened pommel at the end of the handle is designed as a glass breaker. The divot in the handle can serve as a bearing block for a bow drill, a traditional friction method for starting a fire. Laws on knives with glass breakers vary, so check your local laws and use the tool lawfully.

Will the 1095 carbon steel blade rust?

It can. 1095 is carbon steel, not stainless, so it needs more care than stainless steels. The Dark Earth finish helps protect the blade, but the edge and any worn areas can rust or patina if left wet. Wipe the knife dry after use and keep a light coat of oil on it.
