TOPS Mountain Lion Field Edition – 5.50″ 1095 High Carbon Steel Brown Traction Powder Coat Blade, Green Canvas Micarta Handle, Brown Kydex Sheath – TPMTLN02

The TOPS Mountain Lion Field Edition TPMTLN02 is a quarter-inch-thick camp and field fixed blade that TOPS developed with input from active and retired members of the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division.

The 5.50″ blade is 1095 high carbon steel, a long-proven field steel that sharpens easily on a stone. TOPS differentially heat treats it, hardening the edge to 56-58 HRC while leaving the spine softer for toughness. At 0.250″ thick, it is built for camp chores and general utility rather than fine slicing. A Brown Traction powder coat protects the blade flats with an earth-toned finish, and Green Canvas Micarta scales over black accent liners give a durable, weather-resistant grip. The Field Edition updates the original 2008 Mountain Lion with these materials and a Chocolate Kydex sheath.

• Blade: 5.50″ 1095 high carbon steel, 56-58 HRC edge, 0.250″ thick, Brown Traction powder coat.
• Handle: Green Canvas Micarta scales with black accent liners.
• Sheath: Chocolate Kydex with a rotating spring steel clip.
• Carry: 10.75″ overall, 14.2 oz (17.4 oz with sheath).

Ideal for: campers and outdoor buyers who want a thick carbon steel fixed blade that sharpens in the field, buyers drawn to the Mountain Lion’s 10th Mountain Division design input, and TOPS collectors.

1095 is not stainless: it may stain or rust. Keep the blade clean and dry, and keep a light coat of oil on exposed steel, including the cutting edge and the area around the laser engraving.

TOPS Mountain Lion Field Edition TPMTLN02: Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about the TOPS Mountain Lion Field Edition with 1095 carbon steel blade and Green Canvas Micarta handle (TPMTLN02).

What sheath comes with the TOPS Mountain Lion Field Edition?

It comes with a Chocolate Kydex sheath fitted with a rotating spring steel clip, so you can adjust the carry angle on your belt. With the knife in the sheath, the total weight is 17.4 oz.

What’s included with the TPMTLN02?

The knife ships with its Chocolate Kydex sheath and rotating spring steel clip. Contents are set by TOPS and are subject to change.

How do I care for the 1095 carbon steel blade?

1095 is a high carbon steel, not stainless, so it can stain or rust if neglected. The Brown Traction powder coat protects the blade flats, but TOPS recommends oiling any exposed steel, including the cutting edge and the area around the laser engraving. Keep the knife clean and dry after use.

What is the Mountain Lion’s 10th Mountain Division connection?

TOPS developed the Mountain Lion with input from active and retired members of the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division, a mountain warfare unit, and first released it in 2008. The Field Edition keeps that design and updates it with Green Canvas Micarta scales, a Brown Traction powder coat, and a Chocolate Kydex sheath.

What is the Mountain Lion best suited for?

At 0.250″ thick with a 5.50″ blade, it is built for camp chores and general field utility rather than fine slicing. TOPS notes that using a hard baton to split wood can in some cases count as misuse under its warranty, and the warranty does not cover damage from prying or throwing.

Where is the Mountain Lion made, and what is the warranty?

TOPS makes the Mountain Lion Field Edition in the USA. TOPS guarantees its fixed blade knives to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for life, and its sheaths for one year from the original purchase. The warranty does not cover rust, worn coatings, broken tips, or damage from throwing, prying, or misuse, and TOPS requires proof of purchase.
